I'm not sure about the area code thing. Doesn't Tulsa have more than one area code? Identifying by zip/area code feels very "beverly hills 90210", by which I mean old people thinking a shtick from the 1980s is still cool. And is it ever wise to follow UTEP? But - and it's been a long time since I've been able to say this - I think the people handling this at TU know better than I do so let's do it.
Besides the use of the 539 area code is still miniscule to 918. Nobody yet associates 539 to the city, partly because of this. Historical association has not forced 539 into most consciousnesses, it's still 918. Mabye in 15 or 20 years that might change.I'm not sure about the area code thing. Where's their DJI Osmo Mobile Stabilizer. At one point the skyline looked like it was blowing up like the Twin Towers. Here’s another fun video of TU football a few years ago. It is near the end of the video.
I moved away not too many years ago, and I've yet to encounter a 539 area code in the wild. I certainly am used to the 918 though.Besides the use of the 539 area code is still miniscule to 918. Or it will always be 918, because it was the first, and at the time, the only. It had a lot of time to establish itself.(Kinda like Route 66.)
This is so interesting, it feels old school corny to me but hey, if it works, it works. Maybe I've lived in multiple area code cities for too long... Anyway, I'm glad TU is on the ball enough to take advantage of this kind of stuff and focused enough on the community to care to try.412 is huge in Pittsburgh. It’s almost ridiculous- people with it tattooed on them and everything. I think this is a great campaign for TU. Hometown pride builds from this kind of hook. Great job by the TU marketing guys!
Bynum was on channel 2's morning show today and he talked about how the idea came about in looking for a Tulsa City-wide pride celebration (and not the lGBTQ+ pride day thing) and someone suggested doing 9/18 because of the area code. A ton of city businesses have jumped on board with it as well offering either discounted goods and services utilizing the 918 them. We're just lucky we don't have an area code like El Paso's 539 because I can see plenty of folks trying to circle May 39th on their calendar and being very confusedThis is so interesting, it feels old school corny to me but hey, if it works, it works. People posted on Facebook about 9-18 being Tulsa day long before he was elected. I did it when Kragthorpe was coach. Glad they are putting money behind it.Bynum was on channel 2's morning show today and he talked about how the idea came about in looking for a Tulsa City-wide pride celebration (and not the lGBTQ+ pride day thing) and someone suggested doing 9/18 because of the area code.
