179, up from 195 last year.

The rankings are based on 6 years of data. It will be three more years until we expel the last of the True Commitment/CoVid negative data.

If they don’t change the criteria again.

We were 75th in 2012. Roughly 7 years of data into Stead’s reign. Leadership matters.

Progress for sure, but man it hurts seeing us that low. Carson has his sights set high (top 50 and R1). I’m hopeful we can achieve that by the end of this decade.

Lawless wanted top 50 as well. There was one metric back then that there was literally nothing TU could do to really improve on as there was a metric measuring the school's reputation used as part of the ranking. I think it has been removed or at least reduced greatly in its weight in the overall rankings.

Peer reputation is still 20% of the score.

Percentage of alumni who give, which TU was once in the Top 10, is no longer part of the score.

We take a bath on peer review and Pell Grant retention. Which is one reason you hear Wilson constantly saying we need to graduate everyone on the team. Athletes are a disproportionate number of our Pell Grant students and they all want to portal without graduating.

These rating are what the committee think a college should be, not an estimation of academic quality.

Otherwise, things like average faculty salary would not be weighed alongside average ACT and graduation rates.

So true! It is not a ranking of academic quality.

Agreed. Peer reputation is still weighted way too heavily IMO. Sure, we have certain programs that are known and well-regarded nationally, but there aren't enough who view TU as a peer because of the overall national perception amongst institutions and amongst potential students.

Pell grant is a valid measure but also hurts schools because of the athlete side of things and the fact that the NCAA has basically said they don't care if its member institutions are academic schools first...sure they say it but it's a 100% facade. These are pro teams now and graduation is secondary to the TV ratings the athletes produce. Maybe US News and World report needs to remove that metric.

As for TUs ACT avg of incoming students, % of NMS attending, etc. should be an indication of student quality and the 2 yr and 3 yr retention rates should also be a big factor as that would be an indicator that the students attending think they are getting a valuable education. And don't they also measure the % of students who are accepted to grad school or employed in their field of choice 6 months after undergrad graduation date? TU performs well in those metrics as well.

Yeah, that is true. Given our size, athletics is a bigger percentage of the school. They take longer to graduate, and they transfer.

Actually athletics 4 year graduation rates exceed the general student body, last I looked. They stay in school longer, but we bring in plenty of kids who do really really well. The problem lies in the 20% that need a kick in the pants or are starting years behind before they reach campus.
